Cabin Joists & Subfloor

Joists & Subfloor

I worked with my local lumber yard, WBC, to put together my entire floor package. They are knowledgeable and delivered everything right to my job site. I provided them my entire building blueprints and they spec’d out the BCI Joists and etc for me. The cabin is intentionally simple in design and uses stock materials and sizes any supplier will carry.

Prices of building materials fluctuate constantly but I was able to have my building framed and dried in with Ice/Water shield for $7000. What isn’t shown on the order sheet below are the 3 glue lams needed for the project: (1) @ 20’ long for the ridge beam & (2) @ 12’ long for the end walls. I also placed an order locally with my rough cut saw mill for 21 boards @ 2x10x12’ for the rafters that you cut bird mouths.

Don’t forget to use glue your subfloor for a squeak free future. Either use approved screws or ring shank nails. I used DAP 4000 but there are other options too, like AdvanTech’s foam glue, which looks real easy to apply.

Materials

See the attached image below for what my package included. It’s all standard stuff!

I ordered a much better quality sill plate gasket from Conservation Technology, give them a call if you’re looking for a better gasket for improved air sealing. Here’s a video of it:

I also ordered Prosoco product to better air seal around the sill plate, rim board, and wall to subfloor connection. Here’s a video of that:
